The Waldorf Parent-Child Program is a peaceful safe haven. Here, toddlers play calmly and learn a different way of being… it is far more than a way to pass the time with your child – it is a window into a slower, more tranquil way of life.

— MILENA KELLNER, PARENT

Parent-Child classes

Our Parent-Child classes meet in a dedicated classroom in our lower school, and in Central Park.  The classes evolve according to the children’s changing needs—from gentle songs for babies to emotional support in first social interactions of toddlers. The classes are intentionally small and carefully grouped by age.

Rudolf Steiner School’s  experienced and nurturing teachers create a loving and safe environment for your 3-36 month olds to engage in free, self-initiated play. Simple toys made of natural materials, such as wood and wool, allow children to deeply explore their senses and capacities. Activities include bread baking, learning songs, and finger games to enliven children’s imagination.

Adults will find a welcoming environment to share questions and insights about their children and their own development as parents. Conversations and observations invite parents to reflect on ways to navigate parenting with care and respect for children and themselves, and to nourish and strengthen their family life.

I have experienced a full range of early childhood classes, and found this to be the most enjoyable, supportive, and illuminating. And the simplicity of it is just beautiful. To sit, observe, and share in a warm, calm, safe space.

The program is so special and thoughtful. It has been amazing to see the many ways my daughter has grown in her time there.
- Samantha, Parent

For our incoming Nursery families, the Parent-Child Program is a supporting transition into a gentle start in September. Children and parents get to know each other and share insights about the upcoming shift from home to school.

The Parent-Child Program is a family’s first step into our school’s vibrant community. Parents are invited to attend lectures on child development and education, and to participate in school events, such as the Fall Fair, apple picking, musical concerts, and more. Weekly craft sessions and workshops are also a wonderful way of finding support and friendship
