All the children in grades one through eight spend their morning recess outdoors. Children in grades one and two, who do not yet participate in formal physical education, are given ample time for physical activity each day. In addition to morning recess, afternoon playtime – two periods every day in first and second grades, and one period daily in third grade – is usually spent in Central Park. Whether playing games organized by the class teacher or engaging in free play, the students run, skip, climb, jump, throw, and catch in a free, imaginative, non-competitive atmosphere. The third grade spends one afternoon per week with our physical education teachers at the “Y”.
