Meet Our Steiner Students: Q&A with Iliana
“I love learning new skills and getting to compete in them!”
— ILIANA CANNON, Steiner Student, 6th Grade
We are always curious about our wonderful and creative students. Recently we have asked gymnast and 6th grader Iliana Cannon about her time at Steiner:
When did you join Rudolf Steiner School?
I joined Steiner in Parent-Child.
What is your favorite Steiner moment?
My favorite moment is when my class went to the farm for the first time in the third grade. I liked herding the cows, and the cinnamon oatmeal is delicious!
When did you start gymnastics?
I started gymnastics at age 3 and I love it!
What do you like about it?
I love learning new skills and getting to compete in them! Right now I am learning a flipping Yurchenko on Vault, toe hand on Bars, back handspring back tuck on Beam and a Full on Floor.
How often do you practice per week?
I practice 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday (20 hours per week).
What are your next championships?
I just competed in NY States, where I qualified for Regionals. I compete in Massachusetts on April 7th on the NY State Team against the other states in Region 6, which include MA, CT, NH, RI and VT.
So you must be really good in Eurythmy?
I don’t know if I am good at Eurythmy. My floor routine in gymnastics is a little like Eurythmy, where I get to perform to music and learn new movements.
