“The healthy social life is found when in the mirror of each human soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the community the strength of each human soul is living.”
– Rudolf Steiner
We are proud of our commitment to diversity at the Rudolf Steiner School and we work earnestly and continuously to build a welcoming community that reflects the diverse range of families in New York City.
Just as our city is among the most cosmopolitan in the world, our student body represents a rich diversity of cultures and nationalities. Steiner families come from all over the metropolitan area, too — every morning, students travel to our school from as nearby as neighboring buildings and as far away as neighboring boroughs and counties. Furthermore, Steiner is economically diverse and consistently ranks as one of the most generous schools in the city: currently, more than a third of all students receive financial assistance. As well, we have expanded our afterschool programs, to support working parents.
The Rudolf Steiner School is an open and affirming community. We welcome students, families, faculty, and staff, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation. We respect all spiritual beliefs and practices, and support all family structures. In our commitment to these values, our school has formed a Diversity Committee, the mission of which is to promote diversity, equity, and social inclusion at every level of our community. It is an ongoing commitment. To build our knowledge and skills and bring back expertise to our school, community members regularly attend diversity conferences in New York City and around the country. We strongly believe that by supporting diversity in our school, we prepare our students for a diverse world, a global community that sees itself reflected in each of our students and is all the more vital and resilient because of them.
